Madeline discovered filmmaking at an early age, first studying at a summer tutorial program called IDtech Camps at Northwestern University where she attended twice and the second year won a national award for Best Thriller for a short film she wrote, directed, starred and edited when she was just 12 years old. Passionate about many art forms, she studied piano, dance, photography, drawing, and filmmaking allowed her to use all of these talents. With an eye for composition and a dedication to craft, she purposely studied analog 'Photography-one' - 3 times at a college level while still in high school both in Michigan, and in Italy for an early study abroad program where she also studied 16mm filmmaking on early 3-lens Vietnam War news cameras. Creating a foundation in film before stepping into digital filmmaking, she worked as a photographer's assistant to learn digital photography when she was just 15. In college, she competed at Camerimage for her experimental cinematography work with the, at the time, new RED1 camera. "You have to master the rules before you can break them."
