James began his career as a freelance cameraman in 2001 in Munich, Germany. Throughout his extensive experience in documentary shoots, he's gotten very good at working efficiently with small crews and limited time constraints. This skill has proven very useful in his work on narrative projects, such as short films and feature films. For eight episodes in two seasons, James served as the director of photography on the German scripted TV show Schloss Einstein, featuring a predominantly young cast. Given the restricted time the children or teenagers were allowed on set, he had to operate swiftly, simultaneously lighting the next set while continuing to film on another.
