BAFTA winning British filmmaker David Whitney is known for directing the hit BBC feature documentary Killing Escobar and it's follow up Dogs of War, for BBC Storyville. Killing Escobar was broadcast around the world and streamed on Netflix, Peacock and many other platforms, and won David the BAFTA Scotland award for Best Director (Factual). In 2024, David directed the series Special Forces: Most Daring Missions, narrated and exec produced by Tom Hardy, for Paramount+.

David's debut feature film Kandahar Break, filmed in Pakistan and Tunisia, was released by eOne Entertainment in the US and by Revolver in the UK. It was also acquired by Netflix.

On television, David directed four episodes of the BBC drama Moving On for writer Jimmy McGovern. His short film George's Day, for The UK Film Council, starred renowned actor Michael Byrne and won the award for Best Short Film at The Time Film Festival. It was also nominated for best film at The Rushes Soho Shorts and was selected for LA Shorts and The New York Short Film Festival. David's last short film, Summer's Gift, won a best film award at The Kino Film Festival.
