Andrew Freund graduated from UCSB at age 19, with a 4.0 GPA. He began working in the corporate world in Japan while still a teenager. He excelled in sports and martial arts.

Andrew brought his knowledge from Japan to develop sumo events and broadcasts worldwide. Outside of Japan, he is the world's foremost producer of sumo tournaments, demonstrations, lectures, and other events, for audiences around the globe, producing over 2,000 events, and working on over 900 sumo-themed shows, films, commercials, and TV segments. At 150 pounds, he continues to practice and compete in sumo himself (since the mid-90s), and has competed at many World Championship events, for Team USA.

Andrew Freund was inducted into the Martial Arts History Museum Hall of Fame in 2010.
