Michael Podgorac, known as Mikal Maldoror, is an artist and cultural activist whose work explores societal and (sub)cultural themes. Born in Munich and raised in Bosnia, he completed his secondary medical education in Banja Luka, before studying social economy in Belgrade. In 2005, he moved to Vienna, Austria, to pursue studies in theatre, film, and media sciences. His projects are noted for their transcultural, transdisciplinary, and multilingual approaches, emphasizing diversity and inclusivity.

Michael is the initiator and editor of "AUZINE," a trilingual publication that documents seven years in AU, a center for DIY culture, underground, experimental art, and queer culture in Vienna. The project aims to record and highlight the impact of AU on society and culture, providing insights into the socio-political concepts that defined its atmosphere. AUZINE acts as a documentation of Vienna's multi- and subcultural scene, featuring club histories, events, artist portraits, and interviews.

Besides his involvement with AUZINE, Michael co-founded the LINE IN art association, an art gallery, and the experimental space AU. He currently leads the Bunker 16 - Remembering for the Future initiative and works as a project coordinator at Brunnenpassage. He has also worked as a production manager at the Wienwoche festival, which aims to foster social change through art and activism.

As a director of avant-garde films and music videos, Michael explores subculture, DIY ethos, transmigration, and plural cultures of memory. His works include "Langer Weg Der Gastarbajt," "Homohandikus," which won three awards, and "Alien in my Cornfield," recognized at international festivals. Both videos have received multiple nominations, showcasing creativity and impact.

Michael's engagement extends to graphic design and music, founding the experimental rock/post-punk ensemble Soda Gomorra and the hardcore punk collective Ausländer, pushing the boundaries of art and activism.
