Chrishantha Surith Fernando's career in the arts began as a child actor in his native Sri Lanka in the mid-eighties, with numerous roles in theatre and radio drama. After completing high school he worked as a writer for radio and as a production assistant for independent feature films and theatre productions.

In 1993 Fernando was selected by the Sri Lanka TV corporation for a three-year producer traineeship. During this period he attended workshops and courses, gaining valuable knowledge from television trainers from Germany, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

In 1995 he was granted a three-month release to write and direct a musical drama titled 'Vyanga' for Ceylon Theatres Ltd.

On completing the traineeship he was permanently employed as a producer by the corporation (Rupavahini) where he produced numerous studio and OB productions for national broadcast.

In 1999 Fernando won a producer scholarship in TV broadcasting. As part of the scholarship he carried out an assignment at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).

Since moving to Australia he has developed documentaries for both the ABC and SBS and has been shortlisted for presales and funded for development. He also worked as an assistant director on professional short films, feature films, and documentaries.

Fernando is in development for low-budget feature films Front Page Wedding (????) (set in South-East Asia) and 'An Owl Hunting' (set in Australia).
