Galen Young was born in Portland, Oregon, home of Powell's City of Books, which he counted as a second home growing up. Reading way too much Philip K. Dick, J.G. Ballard and Harlan Ellison as a teenager contributed toward shaping his unique perception of reality. His earliest memory of watching a film in a theatre was re-release of 2001: A Space Odyssey, an unforgettable experience.

Given a Super 8 film camera for one of his birthday, he was intent on becoming the next George Lucas until he entered Humboldt State University, where he was introduced to the works of Ingmar Bergman. The introspective Swede taught him human drama could be much more powerful than even the most advanced movie special effects.

Galen has been making short films and writing feature length screenplays ever since. In the mid 80's he traveled with the punk rock band 7 Seconds and filmed the tour documentary "I Still Believe In These Words" (1986). Later films include "Swelter In Vogue!" (1991) and "Gouge Away" (2004).

Galen is married to a French girl named Maud and they have two sons, Remy and Sylvain, and a daughter, Marina.
