Elaine Maddon Curry is the founder of the Hazleton Integration Project, a grassroots effort funded by her cousin, Major League Baseball's Joe Maddon. Curry spent eight years on the Hazleton Area School Board, instituting a policy that made meeting agendas available three days before scheduled meetings so the public could decide whether to attend. She started an advocacy group, Concerned Parents of the Hazleton Area, that helps students and families overcome language barriers.
