Dermot Tynan is a writer/director based in Ireland. He started out as an actor in the Tuam Theatre Guild in his teen years in such memorable roles as "Third Soldier" and "Young Man At The Back". Suffice to say, his acting career was both short and unremarkable. Switching to writing and directing, he experimented with Super8 until finally discovering the heady world of 16mm film. Studying film production at De Anza College, California, he wrote and directed a series of short films in the early nineties.

His first serious short film was "A Talk in the Dark", based on a short story by Irish author Walter Macken. Despite the expert and sane advice not to shoot "sync sound" or at night, Dermot shot the film both with sound and at night. Well, day-for-night. The film went on to play at festivals and was screened in Ipswich every night before Gillies MacKinnon's feature film "The Playboys". Moving to London, he directed two films, entitled "The Lift" and "A Place In My Heart" before moving back to Ireland. Since returning home, he continues to make short films at every available opportunity.

Dermot is a member of the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland.
