Gopaldas Parmanand Sipahimalani better known as G.P.Sippy, was an influential Indian film producer and director who made a significant mark on the Bollywood industry. Born in Karachi, Sindh into a wealthy Sindhi Hindu trading family, Sippy and his family were forced to migrate to Mumbai during the 1947 Partition of India. Despite the upheaval, the family retained considerable assets and transitioned into property development, building and selling structures in upscale Mumbai areas such as Colaba and Churchgate.

Originally a lawyer by profession, Sippy ventured into the film industry by producing his first film Sazaa (1951), directed by Fali Mistry and starring Dev Anand and Nimmi. The film's modest success inspired him to establish his banner, Sippy Films. Over the following decades, Sippy produced a string of notable Bollywood hits, including Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), Andaz (1971), Brahmachari (1968), Shaan (1980), Saagar (1985), and the legendary Sholay (1975), which he produced with his son, Ramesh Sippy. Sholay went on to become one of the most iconic films in Indian cinema history.

Sippy served as the President of the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA) from 1965 to 1966. He was a key figure in shaping the Indian film industry, holding multiple leadership roles over the decades. He served as President of the Film Federation of India (FFI) during the years 1972-73, 1980,-81,1985-86, and 1989-92, and also held the position of Chairman of the Film and Television Producers Guild of India for several years. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored with Filmfare Awards in 1968 and 1982.

After marrying Mohini Devi, G.P. Sippy had four sons, Ajit, Ramesh, Vijay and Suresh, and a daughter, Soni. Sippy was also a racehorse owner and named one of his horses after his film Woh Kaun Thi. G.P. Sippy remained active in the industry until 1990.
