Born Los Angeles California, grew up in Tucson Arizona. Served in US Navy, 1953-57. Educated at Columbia University, New York, University of Arizona, Tucson, and University of California, Berkeley. Program producer and station manager for Pacifica Radio, 1960-64; assistant to executive story editor of Columbia Pictures, 1964-66. Lived in Ireland, England, France, and Switzerland 1966-84. Fluent in French and German. Has directed documentary films and in the theater.
